The FICA Tip Credit, authorized under Internal Revenue Code §45B, allows employers to claim a credit for the Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA) they pay on tip income that employees report, to the extent the tips exceed what is needed to reach minimum wage. This credit applies primarily to food and beverage establishments where tipping is customary, and is calculated and claimed using IRS Form 8846.

A dollar-for-dollar tax credit for employers who pay FICA taxes on employee tips. This is NOT a deduction—it's a direct reduction of your tax bill.

Restaurants, bars, hotels, and any hospitality business with tipped employees. If your staff receives tips, you're likely eligible.

Up to 7.65% of qualified tip income. For a restaurant with 20 tipped employees, this can mean $20,000+ per year in credits.

You will receive a full cash refund if the credit offsets the taxes you all ready paid.

You will receive a partial cash refund, and partial carryforward if the credit exceeds the current years income tax liability or previously paid taxes, allowing the unused portion to be carried forward to offset future tax obligations
